Boston Beer hikes revenues to nearly USD 1 billion

USA | Boston Beer, the brewer of Sam Adams beer, increased annual turnover slightly to USD 995 million in 2018, the company reported on 20 February 2019. It benefitted from a good fourth quarter, which registered a turnover of USD 225 million compared with USD 162 million in the fourth quarter 2017. Its profits (EBIT) for the full year were USD 117 million.

In 2018, shipments rose nearly 14 percent to 4.3 million barrels (5 million hl), reflecting increases in the company’s sales of non-beer beverages, such as its Truly Hard Seltzer, Twisted Tea and Angry Orchard brands. Boston Beer would not say how much beer it sold, only that the Samuel Adams brand saw volumes decline.

This year, Boston Beer will launch three new health-centric brands, including a 26.2 Brew made with sea salt, targeted toward runners, a low-calorie and low-sugar Wild Leaf Hard Tea, and its Tura Alcoholic Kombucha with live probiotics and real fruit. The company will also continue its cost-savings and efficiency initiatives in an effort to further improve operations.
