Donating Leffe bread to food banks

Belgium | AB-InBev, supermarket group Delhaize and La Lorraine Bakery Group have introduced a bread “à la Leffe”, made with the eponymous beer. For every five loafs of the bread sold in Delhaize’s stores, the three will donate an 800 gram family loaf to Belgian food banks.

As reported the website esmmagazine.com in early May 2020, the bread is available in two variants – Leffe Blond bread and Leffe Bruin multigrain bread. It is made with beer which has been sitting idle because of the closure of pubs and bars. Each loaf costs EUR 2.29 (USD 2.50)

A spokesperson for Delhaize was quoted as saying: “For many years, Delhaize has been organising a major annual food collection for the nine national food banks and their 618 affiliate local associations that distribute free food to the more than 170,000 people in need. We wanted to strengthen this support at this particular time with this project.”
