9th Symposium “Trends in Brewing”

KaHo Sint-Lieven Association K.U. Leuven, Ghent/Belgium, and Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh/Scotland, invite you to the international malting and brewing symposium “9th Trends in Brewing”.

This 3-days symposium on “Technological Innovations and Sustainability in Malting and Brewing” will take place from 13-16 April 2010 at the Technology Campus KaHo Sint-Lieven, situated near the unique and beautiful historical centre of the city of Ghent.

Similar to the previous editions of “Trends in Brewing”, the emphasis will be on novel technologies and most promising tendencies in malting and brewing, aiming at improvement of malt and beer quality in a practically feasible way. The second focus of this symposium will be equally well on sustainability and, even more, on the challenge of integration of technological innovation, cost-efficiency, and environmentally friendly malt and beer production. From this point of view, the raw materials and major processing steps in malting and brewing will be treated and discussed, keeping in mind workable solutions for problems encountered in daily practice.

The congress is aimed at malting and brewing scientists, conceptual technologists, practical engineers, and marketing persons with basic knowledge of the malting and brewing processes. Novel findings and technologies will be presented through lectures by prominent invited lecturers, peer-reviewed posters, and an extensive technical exhibition. Evidently, since the symposium is organised in Flanders, there will be ample occasions to discover Belgium’s speciality beers and to visit malt houses and breweries, including a local industrial malt house or brewery and the KaHo St.-Lieven pilot brewery installations.
